OBS Studio 32.2.2 for Windows is the free and open-source software for screen recording and live streaming from the OBS Project, and you can download it from obsproject.com. Version 32.2.2 was released on 14 August 2026.
OBS works as a software vision mixer. You build scenes out of sources: a game window, your whole screen, a webcam, a microphone, images, text or a browser page. Then you switch between scenes while recording to a file or streaming live to platforms such as Twitch or YouTube. Streamers use it for gaming broadcasts with overlays and alerts. Teachers record lessons with slides and a small webcam picture in the corner. Software trainers make tutorials, companies stream events, and many people simply record a video call or a bug to send to support. Because it is open source and supported by plugins, OBS scales from a one-click screen recording to a complex studio setup.
OBS's system requirements article explains that processor load varies considerably with the chosen encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity. The auto-configuration wizard in the Tools menu is the practical way to find settings your PC can handle. A graphics card with a hardware encoder takes much of the load off the processor.
Download OBS only from obsproject.com or the official GitHub repository. Fake OBS sites and "OBS Pro" installers have been used to spread malware, particularly through ads in search results. Install plugins from their authors' official pages.
OBS Studio is completely free, with no watermark, no time limit and no paid edition.
